Pride and Prejudice and Zombies quickly became a New York Times bestseller when it was published in 2009. Now it has been adapted and published in graphic novel format.
The book combines Jane Austen’s classic novel Pride and Prejudice with elements of modern zombie fiction.
As in Jane Austen’s original, it portrays life in the genteel society of the day, and tells of the initial misunderstandings and later mutual respect between Miss Elizabeth Bennett and the haughty Mr Darcy.
Not only do the Bennett sisters undergo the trials and tribulations of courtship but they also have to deal with “the strange plague” that is sweeping throughout England.
Whilst Mrs Bennett focuses on marrying off her five daughters to suitable wealthy suitors, Mr Bennett believes he has the much more important job of keeping his daughters alive.
Possessing great beauty and social skills is not enough, the sisters must also become warriors with great sword-wielding abilities.
